This painting started as a celebration of the summer with balloons floating in the summer sun and the light shining through the balloons causing colours to blend and change. I took some photos of balloons in our garden and one of the trees in our garden was in the shots. I wasn't sure if I wanted to show the balloons caught in the tree but I decided to go with it and started to to create the tree in the background. I experimented with different ways to create leaves and in the end I wanted to use leaf prints. The prints were expressive and textured but also captured the delicate beauty of the veins in the leaves, something I didn't think I could emulate. As I created more prints I liked the effect so I decided to make this into a painting in it's own right.
